The Extroverting Introvert
I consider myself an introvert, but I often wish I wasn’t. Maybe that’s not even the correct term, but I take far too much comfort in being alone, yet I crave new experiences and quite enjoy large events….as long as I know where the nearest exit is!
Oh, and I can’t say no to a road trip! My cats, however, wish I could.
Everywhere I go is my new favourite place!
A love for the outdoors is in my DNA, but an unexpected love for travel started with a solo trip to Southeast Asia in April 2016.
After ending a very bizarre & toxic relationship, I also called it quits on my long-time job as a restaurant manager in Vancouver, BC. For almost 20 years I said I would never do it, but I wanted to return to my hometown of Kamloops, BC.
I just wanted to go camping, but the crushing bustle of the City paired with a manager’s schedule wasn’t conducive to the lifestyle I craved.
Quitting my job was a huge deal. But as the reality of it all set in, I thought it would be a good idea to spend some time alone. So I grabbed my backpack and went on a most amazing adventure!
After a whirlwind 5.5 weeks of backpacking, I thought I was ready to return to “normal” life. I went back to the daily grind of managing restaurants, but this time in my hometown.
After a few unsatisfying soul-sucking months, I was on vacation visiting my parents at their winter home in Rincon de Guayabitos, Mexico.
At the end of my 2 weeks I felt the usual dread of having to return to the rat race.
I made a choice. I wasn’t going to let routine be a life sentence!!
So, I learned some new skills, started my own business, stuffed my 2 cats into the car, and drove to Mexico for the winter. A lovely place of my own in the town of La Penita, Nayarit, and later to Los Ayala.
My always-troubled & barely-beating heart is torn between British Columbia & Mexico. I truly do get the best of both worlds. And yes, you did detect a hint of jaded bitterness in there.
